The Daniels Corporation contributes to much more than a city’s landscape. We feel strongly that developers can and should also enhance the very social fabric of an area. We walk the walk in helping to provide the necessities of life to those less fortunate. Second Harvest The past two decades have been difficult ones for Toronto’s homeless population and others who do not have enough to eat. As the need for food and shelter grows, we continue our involvement in helping to address the situation. In 2009, Daniels is proud to return for the 14th consecutive year as Presenting Sponsor of Toronto Taste, Second Harvest’s annual gala fundraising event. Second Harvest collects and distributes surplus perishable food daily to social service agencies across the GTA, providing food for more than 15,000 healthy meals every day. Supporting Second Harvest is a labour of love for Daniels, because we share Second Harvest’s vision that no one need ever go hungry in the communities we serve. Habitat for Humanity Toronto A stable, affordable place to live is the primary building block from which all Canadians have a chance to realize their potential, and make a positive contribution to their community and country. When it comes to providing a roof over people’s heads, Daniels and Habitat for Humanity Toronto have a real synergy going. Habitat for Humanity Toronto builds simple, decent and affordable homes for low-income families. In Etobicoke, Daniels donated land to be used for the construction of 10 Habitat for Humanity Toronto homes. The property is adjacent to WAVE Lakeshore West, the company’s innovative FirstHomeTM highrise condominium development for low-to-moderate income families. Daniels’ gift represents the single-largest donation of land by a private company in Habitat Canada’s history. In recognition of the work of Habitat volunteers, The Daniels Corporation has also donated a song called “Many Hands”. Several prominent Toronto musicians, including Jackie Richardson, Canada’s leading gospel blues singer and the Faith Chorale perform the song, written by Daniels President, Mitchell Cohen. Daniels has generously allowed Habitat to use the song as a fundraising tool, and it is available to download for a minimum donation of $5.00 from www.manyhands.ca. Eva’s Initiatives Recognizing how important the younger generations are in Canada’s future, Daniels offers financial and hands-on generosity to Eva’s Initiatives, which provides shelter for homeless youth. Approximately three out of every 100 of Toronto’s young people currently live in poverty on the city’s streets. That number represents the equivalent of eight average Toronto high schools. Eva’s works with homeless and at-risk youths ages 16 to 24 to help get them off the streets permanently by providing them with emergency and transitional housing, harm reduction services to deal with drug and alcohol use, counseling, employment and training programs, and help in reconnecting with their families. Each year, Eva’s helps over 2,300 homeless and at-risk young people find housing and community support, and begin to rebuild their futures. The goals of this organization include creating long-term solutions for homeless youth through proactive, progressive services. Eva’s Initiatives is also one of the 141 agencies that benefits from Second Harvest, receiving fresh food at its shelters each week. Basic Necessities Daniels also supports several other causes including House Link Community Homes and similar charities with the goals of providing food, clothing and/or shelter to those in need. When you buy or rent a Daniels home, you help us lend a hand to Second Harvest in the fight against hunger, Habitat for Humanity Toronto in the pursuit of decent housing for low-income families, and Eva’s Initiatives in the struggle to eliminate homelessness. Together, we can make a difference. |
